Artist's Description
This is a public artwork taking the form of a wind blown tree which is made of steel pipes and it is situated high on the Moors above Burnley in Lancashire. It is called the Singing Ringing Tree", a sculpture by Award Winning Architects Tonkin Lui,and it is a unique modern, 21st Century musical sculpture and stands over 20 feet tall. When the wind blows across the pipes it makes a musical sound which can be quite eerie at times. It is part of a series of what are called Panopticons, which are artworks scattered across east Lancashire. Situated on the hilltops at Crown Point, overlooking Burnley, from it's commanding and imposing position it also overlooks Pendle Hill the Bowland Fells and over into Yorkshire and the Pennine Hills. Close to it are the twenty-four wind turbines at Coal Clough Wind Farm, Cliviger. Tourists walk the rugged path to stand beneath them and view the moors and valleys of Pennine Lancashire

Thank you Maurice for your lovely comment. You might be interested to know that some of the pipes had to be sealed off as their unearthly sounds were spooking horses in a field below although they are over a mile away from the sculpture. a case of Art intruding on Nature perhaps

this is a great composition and I think should have placed higher in the contest. The sculpture in it's self is quite spectacular however the way you have captured it in relation to the other elements in the back ground really makes this image stand out
