Description
This passion flower growing in my garden in the north of England is full of symbolic meaning. It is called a passion flower because it is linked with the crucifixion of Jesus, The purple spiky edging represents the crown of thorns in Royal Purple. The 3 brown stamens are the nails he was crucified with. The 5 green Anthers are the 5 wounds of Christ.(2 hands, 2 feet and the stab in his side by the soldiers lance). The flower only blooms for just a short time then dies. The tendrils represent the whips Jesus was beaten with and the 10 petals are the disciples minus Peter and Judas who both betrayed Jesus. Such a beautiful flower with such a powerful back story.
