Description
Villa del Balbianello on Lake Como In Northern Italy. This villa was built in the 1700s on a romantic peninsular on the Lake, as a summer residence for a Cardinal. It was sold to the Visconti family but the family died out and it was again sold in 1919 to American General Butler Ames who started restoration. After his death it was sold to the industrialist and famous Italian explorer Guido Monzino. He fully restored it and it is now a museum dedicated to him and his explorations chiefly to the North Pole and conquering Mount Everest. After his death it was left to the Italian people as a memorial.
