Although it is known as the area of 1000 islands there are over 1800 islands of varying sizes. One of the most spectacular is Heart Island with Boldt Castle on it. This was built by the owner of the waldorf Astoria as a gift for his wife but unfortunately she died before it was completed. All the islands have homes built on them and some look in severe danger of flooding when the St Lawrence Seaway is blocked by melting ice. It was on one of the islands that 1000 island dressing was invented.

I have been a travel photographer for the past 30 years selling my work via photo libraries. Photography has been my passion for 30 years and I also teach it to pass on my knowledge to the next generation.
